Write Protection for USB

Write protection is a method whereby files can be locked to a USB. By locking the files to the drive, you can effectively prevent a user from deleting the files (whether inadvertently or not). This is useful for marketing USBs or informational USBs, where you do not want the user to remove the file from the USB device. The memory allocated to the locked files will not affect the rest of the USB. The rest of the USB memory can still be used for read/write purposes. This is important for marketing-related USB drives because they offer the best of both worlds… a marketing message on a USB which cannot be deleted and a bonus re-writable section that can be used by the recipient of the drive to store files, pictures, videos, and to transport all of this data.
Write protecting files on a USB is accomplished at the controller level of the USB. By creating a partition in the USB's controller chips, it is possible to create a partition which emulates a CD drive. That is, the Computer will think the USB partition is a CD-ROM! Microforum offers the setup service for a small fee and can even add Autorun to your USB media project at the same time.
